Giclée (pronounced sort of like zhee-clay) is a french word that is used to describe a type of fine art reproduction print.
The giclées sold on this website are high-resolution, high tech reproductions of original watercolor paintings. The artist creates a digital image of the watercolor by scanning or photographing the existing artwork. Then she prints the giclées with a special large-format printer on museum-grade 100% cotton rag watercolor paper using lightfast (fade resistant), archival-quality pigmented inks and very fine print heads.
Giclées are the high-definition replacements for traditional lithography, or offset printing. The colors are brighter, last longer, and are so high-resolution that they are virtually 'continuous tone', rather than tiny dots. The range, or "gamut" of color for giclées is far beyond that of lithography, and the details are crisper. This is because the ink is sprayed onto the page, actually mixing the color on the page to create truer shades and hues.
Giclées look very much like original paintings.
The main reason for this is that they are printed so finely on the same type of textured paper that the artist uses to paint her original paintings.
All of the giclées on this site are printed by the artist's printing
company using fade-resistant, archival inks, on 100% cotton rag
watercolor paper. Unless otherwise purchased, giclées are sold packaged
in a single white acid-free mat with acid-free foam core backing inside
an acid-free poly bag. (Mat sizes will be 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, or 10x24 inches, whichever is the closest to the rounded up size of your print.)
All giclées are limited edition, hand signed and numbered by the artist
on the front of the print. A certificate is included with each, with
giclée name, date of print, print and edition number, and artist
signature.
