Still Life with Ivy and Onions, watercolor, $225, framed
Size of painting: 8 ¾ x 6 ¾ inches
Size including frame: 14 3/4 x 13 inches
I created this still life arrangement by gathering things from my home that I like a lot. There's an old glass jar that I love. The houseplant is one that goes in my grandfather's nursing home room, but it needs re-potting, so I brought it home with me. I think it's so pretty, so I included it, too. The pitcher is not only pretty, but meaningful. I met some lovely people at an art show where we were both showing. We traded some of our art with each other, and this pitcher is one of the things I got. It's one of my favorite things. The little catch-all bowl is one of my favorite things, too. My son made it for me when he was in about 2nd grade. The onions are just onions. I added them for the texture, color, and to add another natural element to the painting.
The first image below shows the painting alone. You may click on the image for a larger view.
The second image shows the painting as I have framed it. I chose double matting in dark green and off-white, and textured wooden moulding with a dark green hue to make the frame. All materials are of archival quality.
