Pisgah Covered Bridge in Winter, watercolor, $515, unframed
Size of painting: 21 x 14 inches
Size including frame: 31 x 24 inches
This old bridge is in Randolph County, NC. It is a historic wooden covered bridge, built in 1911, that spans the west fork of the Little River. It is one of fewer than 50 covered bridges remaining in North Carolina. I think it is such a picturesque feature of the North Carolina Piedmont. Last March we had a good snow, and thankfully my husband took me to this spot to take some photos. It was beautiful and peaceful.
In this painting I tried to capture the peaceful stillness of that day. I used a watercolor technique called pouring for the background. The colors are literally poured on to the wet paper to create the rainbow of colors.
The first image below shows the painting alone. You may click on the image for a larger view.
The second image shows the painting as I have framed it. I chose double matting in grayish lavender and speckled white. I used glossy moulding that has a slightly metallic color makes the side of the covered bridge seem to glow to make the frame. All materials are of archival quality.
